St Joseph's Flowers in Ruislip
St Joseph's took part in the recent flower festival at St Mary's, South Ruislip. See the board in the centre for photos and a report from Lesley and Edith
'Age of Stupid'
This is a fictionalized documentary, set in 2055, following runaway climate change and the breakdown of civilization. The film's main actor, Pete Postlethwaite (of Usual Suspects and Brassed Off fame), looks back at real TV footage as he asks the question "Why didn't we act to prevent this happening?". It's being shown on Sunday June 14th, 7.30pm at St Mary's Church, South Ealing, and will be followed by a 10-minute presentation by Ealing Transition www.ealingtransition.org.uk More information on poster in the centre.
Have you been baptized?
We will be holding a baptism by full immersion as part of our service on Sunday August 2nd. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ and worship regularly at St Joseph's and haven't been baptized yet, then please speak to Fr Simon if you are interested in being baptized on that day.
Thank you from the Rev Jo Neary
Jo has sent a card thanking us for her send-off in April. The family are settling well in Dorset. Have a look at the card on the board.
Trainee preachers at St Joseph's
Over the coming months you will hear from three of our church members beginning to preach at different acts of worship at St Joseph's. The PCC has supported Joel Guinness, Sandy Reed and Sarah Guinness to undertake the Willesden Area preaching course, which runs for six months. If people successfully complete the course the bishop will give permission for them to preach in their parish. Please encourage these trainees and give them constructive feedback, and don't forget that we are all apprentices in God's workshop. Please continue to pray for all who preach and teach here. Thank you, Fr Simon
Soul in Northolt and Greenford Pentecost event
Once again we are running a community event on Northolt Clocktower Green together with other SING churches on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st, 4-6pm, with an act of worship from 6-7pm. Attractions include the St Michael's Stonebridge youth Steel Band, a prayer tent, a tombola, cakes and drinks, bouncy castle and games. The aim is to bless local people. St Joseph's are responsible this year for games stalls. We also need to pitch our own gazebos this year (last year another church did it for us).
If you are able to help please sign the list in the Dovetail Centre today.
Is God calling you?
'Pathways of Ministry: A Rough Guide to Vocation' is a Willesden Area event being held from 9.30am-1.30pm on Saturday June 6th at St Andrew's Church, Malvern Avenue, Roxbourne, South Harrow. There will be introductions with Bishop Pete and area officers to Readership, commissioned and ordained ministry and interviews with those fulfilling these roles. Also youth and children's ministry, town centre, airport and healing and street ministry and world development. More information will be available on different stands. See the poster in the centre and pick up a leaflet/flier.
Receiving Communion: a reminder
A friendly request that people show respect for the most sacred moment of our Eucharist and don't come up to Holy Communion chewing gum or eating sweets. Please dispose of such things before you enter church, and never on the floor or under your pew! And a reminder that rather than 'thanks' or 'cheers', the customary Anglican response on receiving communion is 'Amen' (="May it be so" in Hebrew). Thank you!
An invitation from Bishop Martyn Jarrett
The Rt Rev Martyn Jarrett, Bishop of Beverley, who was vicar of St Joseph's 1976-81, is celebrating the fortieth anniversary of his ordination as a priest with a Solemn Mass at Worksop Priory, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday June 6th at 12 noon. The people of St Joseph's are invited to attend. See the invitation in the centre.
