Notices for this week 21st June 2009
Summer placement student
Martin Allwood, from Ripon College, Cuddesdon, will be with us as our ordination placement student from June 29th until July 19th and then again from August 23rd-30th. He will be getting a taste of all aspects of the life and ministry of St Joseph's and the Dovetail Centre during his time with us. Please make Martin welcome and help him to make the most of his time here.
Thank you for your prayers as I walked another seven days of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route with two friends, this time between the attractive towns of Logrono and Burgos, through Rioja and Castile in
northern Spain. We covered about 20km a day on foot with all we needed in our backpacks, and met fellow pilgrims from many different nations. It was again a life-giving and enjoyable experience. I can live without some of the smelly, snoring pilgrims, but am very grateful for the space, solitude, and time for contemplation, as well as companionship along the way. Simon
Stewards Training on Saturday 18th July
We are holding a stewards and welcomers training morning, 10.15am-11.45am on Saturday July 18th. This is one of our bi-annual events for current stewards and those who we are inviting to join this important ministry. If you are unable to be there please ensure you inform the church wardens, but we hope everyone will make the effort to attend.
Dot Smitheman RIP
We are sad to report Dot's recent death. With her family she was a faithful member of St Joseph's for many years. Dot's funeral will take place tomorrow at 12 noon in church, followed by burial at Greenford Cemetery. Tonight at 8pm her coffin will be brought into church to rest here overnight. Please pray for Dot's family as they mourn her.
Simon would welcome your memories of Dot, her gifts, personality and Christian faith. Please pass them to him by email or written note by this evening.

Address: 127a Digby Avenue, Nottingham NG3 6DT. email: denisekdood@yahoo.co.uk
Please also pray for David Cleugh, our placement student in 2007, who is being ordained Deacon on July 5th, to serve with his wife Hannah as a curate in the Dorchester on Thames team, Oxfordshire. Also, for Vanessa Parr, another past St Joseph's parish assistant, being ordained priest on July 4th in St Alban's Diocese.
A new Vicar for St Nicholas
Good news! The Rev Andrew Evans, currently Rector of Bradford Abbas and Thornford with Beer Hackett, near Sherborne in Dorset, has been appointed Vicar of our neighbouring 'Quartet' parish of St Nicholas, North Hayes. Andrew, who is married with four children, will be licensed on September 7th by Bishop Pete. Please pray for him and his family as they prepare to move to Hayes and for the church family at St Nicholas'.
A message from Toby Crowe (Parish Assistant, 2005 - 2007)
I'm being ordained deacon in St Paul's Cathedral at 5pm on Saturday 27th June. I'd love it if you could come. There's a reception nearby when the service finishes, it would be great if you came to that too (you can come to the reception even if you can't make the service). The reception is at the Hand and Shears, on Middle Street, off Cloth Fair. It's next door to Bart's Hospital (on one side) and Smithfield (on the other). Please let me know if you're coming. tnc21@cam.ac.uk Toby
Please sign up today if you wish to join the St Joseph's group going to the ordination service. We will meet at the entrance to Northolt tube station at 2.30pm, to enable us to be in the queue for the cathedral doors opening at 4pm. We will aim to find Toby after the service and get a St Joseph's group photo with him.
Zimbabwe Donkeys
We are doing a stall at the Greenford carnival on July 4th for the treatment to help the overworked Donkeys in Zimbabwe. The donkeys fall ill always. Anything you don’t want we will put on the stall for SPANA animal rescue. Joan Kearley
